Mangrove Tour by Night (Boat)
Once the sun goes down, the mangroves turn into a different place entirely. You head out at 6pm with Cambute, a Damas Island family that has been guiding this channel for more than 35 years, and slip into the estuary by boat just as the night shift wakes up.
Your guide's light sweeps the tangled roots and the banks, picking out whatever is out and about that night. Nothing is fed or called in, so every sighting is genuine, and no two nights are the same. It's quiet, a little spooky in the best way, and nothing like the daytime trip.
Afterward there's dinner at their base, then a ride straight back to your hotel. Pickup covers Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Anyone under 18 just needs an adult along.
