Getting around

Taxis and transfers

  • Taxis

Licensed taxis run between Quepos, the hotels and the park.

Taxis shuttle along the single road between Quepos, the hotels and the park entrance. Choose a licensed taxi, which shows a yellow triangle with its licence number on the front doors.

Meters are used less consistently in tourist towns than in the city, so agree on the fare before you set off. Your host can arrange a driver they trust.

  • Private transfers

    About 3 hours from SJO

A private van from the San José airport takes about three hours.

A private van with room for your luggage is the easiest way to travel between the San José airport and Manuel Antonio, about 160 km away. Plan for roughly three hours, more with traffic or stops.

If you like, ask the driver to stop along the way to eat or shop for groceries. Private transfers can also be arranged for other trips within Costa Rica.

Public transport

  • Bus to Manuel Antonio

Every 30 min, about 25 min ride

A local bus links Quepos and the park road every 30 minutes.

The public bus leaves the Quepos bus terminal about every 30 minutes from 5:45 am to 7:00 pm, then at 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm. The ride takes about 25 minutes.

Pay the driver in colones, in cash. The bus runs along the road and ends near Playa Espadilla, a short walk from the park entrance.
